Meet and chat with past and prest nominees and winners of the Lisa Grill Compassion for Animals Award and hear about their activism in the GTA and beyond.
Nathaniel Erskine-Smith – Nathaniel works as a vocal advocate for animals in Ottawa through his role as the MP for Beaches-East York. As an MP he has introduced the Modernizing Animal Protections Act to strengthen Canada’s animal cruelty laws, helped found an Animal Welfare Caucus to push for humane transport laws, jointly seconded Bill S-203 to end the captivity of whales and dolphins, and introduced many animal petitions.
Nicole Sapalovski – Nicole is a local activist who participates in actions with Direct Action Everywhere, does outreach with Anonymous for the Voiceless, and takes on projects like petitioning local restaurants to remove animal products from their menus. She also uses social media platforms to share news and inspirational stories relating to animal rights to encourage others to follow her lead, and always travels with literature, cards, or stickers to spread the message.
